Gaunt Park is named after former slave Wheeling Gaunt who settled in the area and eventually donated land back to the area. Well known and popular local destination eateries are Young’s Jersey Dairy and Ha Ha’s Pizza. Even local college students from Wittenberg in Springfield visit Young’s just for the homemade ice cream. People go to the downtown area for the independently owned and operated eclectic, distinct and unique shops, art galleries and restaurants.
Each year features many street and art festivals, book and craft fairs. Antioch College is a nationally recognized liberal arts college located here. The community places an emphasis on the arts offering live theatre groups, bringing chamber music series, summer Shakespeare and a first run art-film theater.
